Topics Covered   

The study of 8th grade Social Studies is designed to serve as a comprehensive study of NC & US History, as well as Economics, Geography, Civics & Government, and Culture. The units covered in this section spans from the 1500s to the present-day:

Unit 1: NC & Colonial Settlements Unit

Unit 2: Creation of America Unit 5: The World Stage

Unit 3: Internal Conflict Unit 6: Cold War & Civil Rights   

Unit 4: Progress of a Nation

Unit 5: The World Stage

Unit 6: Cold War & Civil Rights

Unit 7: Globalization & the Modern Era

**Skills that will be practiced: reading comprehension, critical thinking, problem solving, analytical skills**

Student Expectations
Participate daily in the ABSS remote learning schedule following the 2020-2021 academic calendar for student days. 

Log into assigned class/courses daily. 

Complete assigned tasks and submit these tasks to the teacher using Canvas. 

Meet with the teacher during daily virtual office hours as needed.

NO student may interfere with or hinder another student’s opportunity to learn.

Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Expectations

Use the parent/guardian/caregiver directions and resources in the grade level/content area learning progressions to assist your child with their assigned tasks/assessment. 

Ensure your child has access to instructional materials and participates daily aligned to the provided schedule from the school. 

Meet with your child’s teacher during virtual office hours and/or at school office hours as needed for any assistance along the way. 

Parents should communicate any conflicts with the daily remote schedule to the teacher.
