Course Syllabus
Intermediate Art (Art 2) Syllabus
Course Overview
In Intermediate Art, we begin to explore and master several different media using the compositional knowledge learned in Beginning Art, regarding the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. There will be several major projects, sketchbook assignments, photography assignments, in-class writing assignments, continued learning of art history and further development in critical analyses of personal and peer artwork.
Expectations (Remote)
Attendance
- Students are expected to log into Canvas daily to complete assignments for that day.
- Students are expected to be present and on time for all scheduled zoom meetings. If something occurs that requires you to miss the zoom meeting, email me to let me know.
Zoom Etiquette
- Microphone should be muted during whole class instruction unless you “raise your hand.” Please wait to be unmuted. (Raise your hand by clicking on “participants” at the bottom of the screen and then click “raise your hand.”)
- Be attentive and engaged.
Supplies Needed: A sketchbook (this can be partially used from a previous art class) and pencils. Some students may choose to purchase their own assortment of paintbrushes, but this is not required.
Grading System
You will see 3 categories in the gradebook, and each category has its own weight. These categories are titled performance tasks, classwork and projects.
Performance tasks(weighted 30%) will generally be sketchbook assignments, practice drawings, and other short-term art-making assignments.
Classwork (weighted 30%) will include verbal and written critique assignments (critiques of your work, the work of your peers and the work of other notable artists), art history research, writing assignments and quizzes on art vocabulary.
Projects (weighted 40%) There will be several longer projects throughout the semester that demonstrate your ability to use techniques that you have learned and practiced. These project assignments will generally be a larger percentage of your grade than other assignments.
Late Work:
Missing/Late work will be entered in as a 0 until the work is submitted. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for work that is missing due to absence(s).
