Dear Family & Consumer Science Students and Parents/Guardians:
CURRICULUM: The course in which your child has enrolled is Foods & Nutrition I. This course examines the nutritional needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of diet to health, kitchen and meal management, and food preparation.
CLASS PREPARATION:
I am requesting that each student have the following supplies:
Pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, white out, spiral or composition notebook, 2 inch three-ring binder or “Foods I” section in your binder, loose-leaf notebook paper, and 6 dividers. ( returned classwork, test/ quizzes)

TESTING:
Students enrolled in this course are required by the state of North Carolina to take a Post exam given at the end of the course.Students are encouraged to do their best on all tests, assignments, labs, and projects. Cheating is unacceptable and will result in a zero for the assignment.
ABSENCES AND MISSED WORK:
If you are absent, upon your return, YOU are responsible for picking up your missed work and seeing me AFTER class. Specific due dates will be assigned to ALL homework and project assignments. Students will receive significant point reduction when assignments are completed after the DUE DATE. Excused absence or illness will follow school make-up policy.

BATHROOM/HALL PASSES:
You will receive (12) hall passes each (18) weeks. If you lose your passes, you will not receive another copy. At the end of 12 weeks you will be able to redeem 4 points per unused hall pass.The points will be added to your lowest “classwork” grade.If you have a medical condition that requires you to leave the classroom frequently, please present a copy of the doctor’s medical statement to the school nurse for proper documentation
FOOD PERMISSION FORM
During this FACS course, there will be occasions when food and drinks will be part of the classroom activity. Most of the time, the teacher will provide the ingredients for the food/drink as part of a class assignment.Students are encouraged to try all foods prepared in class even if it is just a spoonful; however, no student is penalized for not trying some of the prepared foods. It is strictly on a voluntary basis.The teacher needs to know about any food allergies and food restrictions.
In order for your child to participate in all food activities, you must sign this permission slip, which I will keep on file.

*Missed labs:* 1st missed lab, student will be exempt. After the first missed lab students will be required to make up the lab at home in order to receive credit a “0” will be given if not made up in a timely manner. Students failing the class will not be able to participate in labs until the grade is brought up to passing.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Please bring all materials to class. (Bring a pencil or pen)
- Stay awake! No sleeping in class.
- Pay attention to lectures, demonstrations, videos, and discussions.
- It is your responsibility to talk to the teacher ( after class/school) to find out what you need to make up if you are absent. Please do not interrupt class time to get make up work.
- No Profanity ( CURSING)
- Do not throw items across the room!
- You are expected to be familiar with and abide by Walter Williams and Alamance- Burlington County Student Discipline and Code of Conduct.
