Look below at a picture of Barack Obama that she took. Notice that she uses the rule of thirds by placing his face on the upper/left third intersection. There is strong lighting coming from the right side that creates a nice contrast of value. He is shown in an office wearing his work clothes which gives us a glimpse of that part of his life. You will submit 3 portraits for this photography assignment. You can include a full body pose or it can be cropped in as tight as you want. Think about the person you are photographing and what you want your viewer to know about them. How you can you arrange the shot to give the viewer that information? Where will you photograph them? Will it be candid or formal? Do you want them to look at the camera or not? Take steps to control the picture by planning these things ahead of time. Schedule a time with the person you are photographing. Make the following decisions before you begin taking pictures- 1- Where will you be? 2- When? If it's outside, what time should it be- remember this will affect the light you get.3- If it's inside, how will you control the lighting? Will you be near a window or a lamp? 4- Is there something specific you want them to wear? 5- Take MULTIPLE shots! Try full body shots, try cropping, try asking them to look in different directions. You can submit your best 3 photographs of the same person, or you can submit 3 photographs of three different people.
