Course Syllabus

This course is designed to meet North Carolina's 8th grade history requirement. Through this course you will cover Colonial America to present day. While American History is the key topic, we will view History through the lens of North Carolina. 

Grading

Tests = Projects - 40% (There will be several projects throughout the course Individual, Partner, & group. All projects will require research, citation, & creation) There will be a minimum of 2 test per quarter.

Quizzes - 20% (online quiz on Canvas or in class Paper and Pencil)

Classwork - 35% 

Homework - 5% (Ex. : Progress Reports)

It is expected that any class assignment is to be complete prior to the next class meeting (All assignments can be accessed from Canvas on any device connected to the internet)

History Late Work Policy:

Students will have 1 calendar week from the assignment due date to complete with a 10% late penalty assessed to the possible grade of the assignment. All Assignments will have a Lock out date 1 week from the Assignment Due date. If an assignment is not turned in by a student on the day of the due date, a "0" will be entered as a place holder. All students are afforded the opportunity to submit an assignment for re-grading to earn a higher score (minimum of 3 attempts) prior to the lock out date.  Documented Medical Exceptions will be entered as "EX" in the gradebook. 
Ex. Student was assigned Monday in class work sheed due at the end of class Core 1 .Student turned in 3pm No Late Penalty as it was submitted prior to End of Day.
Student turned in the assignment the following day (1 day after due day) Earning a grade of 80% but due to late penalty Actual Grade entered will be 70%.
Student did not turn in the assignment within the 7 days by lock out date, Grade in Grade book will remain a "0" in the gradebook.
Student was absent from school due to major surgery, All assignments that student has missed and unable to make up will be scored "EX."

Expectation of Behavior: Upon entering the classroom, students will place all backpacks/bags on their assigned hook. Cell Phones will be off and are required to be in backpacks. Students will only need with them a writing utensil (pen / Pencil), binder with a package of college ruled paper, & school provided computer at their desk. Students will be seated in their assigned desk, computers will remain closed until told to open them. We will follow the R.I.S.E. & C.H.A.M.P.S. models in the classroom for all other activities.
