America: The Story of US is a documentary series produced by the History Channel that tells the story of America's history over the course of 400 years. As part of this assignment, you will watch the fourth episode, "Division." This segment is a good introduction to the topics we will be discussing in the second part of our Antebellum unit. You will learn general details about technological and industrial growth experienced by the United States in the mid-1800s, and you will be introduced to the divisions in society that led to the Civil War.
As you view the documentary, please fill in answers to the attached questions. Due to the shorter classes on our new schedule, we will split this into two class periods. If you are unable to attend live class on 3/15/21 or 3/16/21, you should watch the recorded lesson for 3/16 to catch the information you missed.
If you want to watch the video on your own, you may use the following link: America: Story of US: Division Links to an external site. (be aware that video filters may prevent you from viewing this on a school device).
Special Notes: Though the information discussed in the video is rooted in fact, some of the material shown has been dramatized. Through further class discussion, we will break down more of the history behind this episode.
On 3/15, we watched the video to the 20 minute mark and covered information for questions 1-12. On 3/16, we finished the remainder of the video and answered questions 13-22.
