1. Determine the best candidate for the Senate position. * Based on experience Douglas, Based on Popular vote Lincoln.
2. Compare the two candidates in Political views, social (race views), oratory (speaking) skills, & leadership qualities
Douglas: Democrat, Pro-Slavery Pro Inequality, Most famous public speaker, 3 terms but angered many
Lincoln: Republican, Anti-Slavery expansion But Pro-inequality, Not the best speaker but great writer, 1 term but inspired many.
3. Who won the Senate Election of 1858? Who won at each Debate Location (all 7)? Slide 15 & slide 9
4. Who do you feel should have been elected, & Why?
