How did the human & physical characteristics of the US regions lead to sectionalism?
How did human & physical characteristics create regional differences & tensions in NC during the mid-1800’s?

Take away:
- East- Most fertile land, More Plantations, Raised cash crops, many wealthy citizens
Wealth = Political Power
- West- Mountains & less fertile soil, frontier lifestyle, subsistence farming, economy was stagnant, far fewer slaves, less wealthy
- Unequal political representation, wealthy desired little government = reforms & help needed in the western region didn’t happen
