The California Gold Rush was sparked by the discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley in early 1848. Thousands of would-be gold miners, known as ’49ers, traveled overland across the mountains or by sea.  The Dream of becoming rich led millions to the West Coast.   In your opinion, were these men justify to travel West to chase wealth at the expense of losing everything  ie, family, health, etc,.
